Mary Ann Clark was born in 1806 in Somerset England. The colors on this charming sampler are as bright as the wool threads from the original.
Of historical note, the Society of Friends established itself in the town of Street in the mid- 17th century and among the close knit group of Quaker families were the Clarks. Cyrus Clark started a business in sheepskin rugs, later joined by his brother James who introduced the production of woolen slippers, boots, and shoes.
Our reproduction was stitched on 32 count Sandstone linen from Wilchelt Imports with Au Ver A Soie stranded silk, and will measure 9 X 10 and is executed in cross, and counted satin. The original sampler is in the collection of Historic Handworkes.
